Enjoy this classic 'Hot Gin Punch' which has made appearances in Charles Dickens novel 'A Christmas Tale' and is perfect for the festive season, however, as it is Winter in the 'Southern Lands', this cocktail is perfect for an Australian winter! Hot Gin Punch
Ingredients
480ml gin 480ml sweet Madeira wine 1 tablespoon dark brown sugar Peel & juice of 1 lemon Peel & juice of 1 orange 1 pineapple, peeled, cored, and sliced 3 cloves 3 cinnamon sticks Pinch of ground nutmeg
Method
Put all the ingredients in a medium-sized saucepan over a low heat. Bring to a simmer and cook gently (without boiling) for 30 minutes. Taste and adjust flavours with more brown sugar or more lemon juice to your tastebuds preferences. Pour the mixture into a jug or teapot and serve!
For extra pizzazz, garnish with a slice of orange and whole clove.
