As the days grow shorter and the air turns crisp, there's a unique charm in gathering around a beautifully set table.  Winter invites us to slow down, savour hearty meals, and create moments of warmth and connection.  At Malmaison, we believe in the art of layering textures, tones, and stories -to transform everyday dining into an experience of effortless elegance.

Begin with a Neutral Foundation

Start by laying a neutral-toned tablecloth, such as our French Olive Stripe Tablecloth. This soft backdrop allows other elements to shine while exuding understated sophistication. Layering with a earthy toned placemats depth and a touch of rustic charm.

Embrace Rich, Earthy Tones

Winter is the season of deep, comforting hues.  Incorporate similar toned linen or cotton napkins, like our Avignon Olive Napkins, to introduce warmth and texture.  Their fringed affect also adds interest.  Consider using a mix of La Rochere Glassware in Aubergine hues and clear finishes to add subtle colour variations that catch the candlelight beautifully.  For our table we have incorporated the Aubergine Wine Glasses and Water Tumblers as well as the sweet Délice dishes.

Combine your favourite dinnerware and cutlery at each place setting to create your own unique style.  With our Winter table we used the French Country Dragonfly Dinnerset and Lunch Plates, however used a more rustic Amitié Napkin Ring with napkins and freshly picked olives to create beautiful layers.  Mixing and matching cutlery, such as antique serving spoons and Laguiole cutlery, adds in a touch of eclectic and authentic French charm.

Illuminate with Candlelight

As daylight fades, candlelight becomes essential in crafting a cosy atmosphere. Use a combination of tall candlesticks and smaller tealight holders to create varying heights and a warm glow. Our Ruffle Tealight Holders paired with Tapered Candles, and short Délice dishes are perfect for this layered lighting effect.

Add Personal Touches

Infuse your table with elements that reflect your personality and the season's spirit. Incorporate natural materials like pinecones, sprigs of rosemary, or dried citrus slices for a sensory experience.  Place a small, thoughtful favour at each setting, a handwritten note, a wrapped chocolate, or a tiny ornament to make guests feel cherished.  We chose to use sprigs of freshly cut olives at each place sitting as well as freshly cut roses from our garden to decorate the table and make it feel warm, authentic and welcoming.
